Però ci proviamo: se è vero che il fascino di Lost ha molto a che fare col mistero e col non detto, è vero anche che questo finale è molto meno aperto di Lost After Dark sells the audience the idea that it's a throwback retro horror flick. It's set in the 80's. It has a Grindhouse vibe. It even has a missing reel. Yet, after my view, my first thought was "this ain't 80's, this jack is whack!" There's nothing wrong with no-budget Canadian movies. Hell, I love me some Canada. Non ha neppure un nome e non spiccica verbo, a parte qualche invocazione d’aiuto e le scarne righe di una lettera di addio ai suoi, scritta quando gli sembra che “All is Lost”. Di lui sappiamo esclusivamente ciò che vediamo: la civiltà di modi, l’instancabile fare mentre riaggiusta lo scafo, affronta la tempesta, mantiene la rotta, centellina le provviste, si sforza di non crollare.
Leggere "After Dark" è stato grossomodo tutto questo, la storia non prevede particolari colpi di scena, non c'è "spettacolarità", però Murakami come al solito narra il tutto magistralmente (renderebbe interessante anche una persona che mastica una gomma con fare totalmente annoiato), e volenti o nolenti finiamo catturati in una trama leggera e per l'appunto sognante.
